Many students of late opt to study in Germany post their GRE exam. This is because Germany is an inexpensive and friendly country that accepts students from across the globe with no discrimination and extreme warmth. However, there are many factors which one has to consider before deciding to study abroad. This is even more applicable when we decide to study in a non-English speaking country. It is understandable that leaving your home country and studying in a country where you do not know the language can be challenging but there are certain ways to overcome this setback.

If you are a student who just completed the GRE test and are going to stay in Germany for a few years for the advancement of your career, then unmistakably, you will find yourself in two possibilities. The first possibility is obtaining a degree in the language you are most comfortable in, that is, in English. English is now accepted in plenty of German Universities. There are also new courses in English which are introduced regularly in the universities. With an increase in the number of international degrees and exchange students, the demand for subjects to be taught in English has also increased exponentially. Now comes the second possibility, the possibility of mastering the local German language and then applying for the specialization in the native language. With these possibilities comes the question of ’What is the best?’ Even though the answer to this question depends completely on the student and their preference and point of view, we present here some pros and cons of pursuing your Masters Degree specialization in German language.

Pros

  • German courses are much cheaper: Taking an English course is more expensive than the German course. And if you compare the costs of these courses with the cost spent on taking German classes then you can observe how much money can be saved.
  • A new language never goes waste: German is a language that is widely spoken in other countries as well and if you plan on staying in the country it can come in handy.
  • German helps you to communicate with the local public: You will be staying in Germany for a year or two and it’s not like you will be staying in your college campus 24×7, so it is important to be able to communicate in the local language as many locals don’t know English.

Cons

  • Need to master a completely new language– Surely, never in your life would you have faced the need of learning German, but to take a course solely in German language is a whole another task. You will not only have to learn it but will have to master it to understand every concept of the program.
  • Slow progress: To learn a new language and master it, you may need time and time is one of the most crucial attributes while living in a foreign land. So, you may struggle more than your classmates to understand and excel in class.
  • An extra expense: To learn a new language you will have to spend some extra bucks apart from the course fee which can put an additional financial strain on your pocket.
