Elon University

Founded in 1889, Elon University is a private university located in Elon, North Carolina. Throughout its history, this institution has braved several challenges. Yet, it has persevered through all of them. For example, in 1923, major parts of the campus including classrooms, the library, and the chapel were destroyed in a fire. However, the Board of Trustees immediately voted to rebuild the campus; thereby, serving as the foundation of the university as it exists today.

Initially, the institution only enrolled residents of North Carolina. Later in the mid-1970s, it began enrolling a significant number of students from the mid-Atlantic states. By 2013, 82% of incoming students were from outside the state.

Over the years, the standard of education at this university has improved many folds. This is reflected in the rankings Elon has received in recent years. The institution was ranked 83rd in the US News and World Report 2022 among ‘National Universities’ and 22nd on QS World Ranking 2021 within ‘USA University Rankings’. 

Elon University has served as the alma mater of leaders across numerous fields. Some of its  notable alumni are Dallas Wesley Durham, American Sportscaster; Rich Blomquist, Emmy Award Winner; Steven Kinney,  American Soccer Player; Thomas Grant Gustin, American actor; William Evans “Bill” Gortney, retired United States Navy Admiral; and John Edward Burton III, former NASCAR Driver, among others.
