Are you planning on applying to ISB? Do you need assistance with your ISB essay preparation?

Writing an essay is usually the last step of a student’s journey to applying at ISB. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree, garnering two years of work experience, studying for the GMAT/GRE, obtaining letters of recommendation, and cracking an intimidating interview, all that is left to do is to write two 400-word essays. This may sound easy, but this is where students tend to stumble and that is overlooked by most students. The essay can often be the deciding factor of your admission, so it’s important to give it the attention it deserves. Here is how you can ace your ISB essay:

  1. Understand the motive behind the questions

The ISB essay is divided into two essays of 400 words each. The first essay attempts to understand the personality and calibre of the applicant. Hence, it is important for you to understand what exactly the essay question requires of you. For example, if the essay prompt is “Explain with examples an important quality you possess which significantly enhances your prospects of being successful as a leader?” You should understand that the essay is asking you to name one unique quality about yourself, and isn’t looking for a generic answer like “I’m hardworking and committed.” The admissions committee wants to get a glimpse of who you are as a person and are not looking for template answers.

  1.  Provide evidence for your claims

In the first essay, you should cite credible personal examples to substantiate your claims. What did you do in your job/college that demonstrated your leadership? How did you stand out as an employee? What qualities set you apart from others? It is imperative for you to introspect and understand what truly makes you unique if you are seeking admission at ISB.

  1. Essay sample topics

While preparing for your essay, you should have a look at previous years sample essay topics. This is to help you understand what they expect of you at ISB. This includes how you can structure your essay, what are some valuable elements to include, and how to present yourself as an eligible candidate through the essay. Looking at the previous essay topics will give you a fair idea of what the questions look like.

  1. Make concise and clear points

As the word limit for both essays are 400 words each, it is imperative that you articulate clearly and concisely. This will not only help you describe yourself more in a clear manner, but it will also construct an image of you being confident with yourself, your achievements, and your abilities

  1. Avoid exaggeration

The second essay attempts to understand your short-term and long-term goals after attending ISB. While it is, of course, important for you to have high aspirations and expectations for yourself, try not to exaggerate what you will be able to achieve with an MBA from ISB. Abstract and unachievable plans are see-through. You may risk appearing confused, fickle-minded, and unsure of your professional goals.

We hope to have assisted you with your ISB essay preparation, in order to pursue an MBA at ISB. If you are to follow all the above pointers, you can breeze through the essay questions and ace them effortlessly!
