Many students who aspire to do their MBA degree will have to attempt the GMAT exam so that they can gain admission to the university of their choice. The scores which you obtain on the exam play a vital role in the admissions process at the university of your preference. There are many questions which each student has regarding the GMAT. GMAT Test Structure

The GMAT exam has 4 main sections :

  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Analytical Writing 
  • Integrated Reasoning

Each section of the exam has been allotted specific marks and time duration as well. It is necessary to remember the scoring pattern of each section so that you can spend sufficient time preparing for the same.

GMAT Registration

Registering for the GMAT exam is a relatively simple task but it is recommended that you complete the procedure at the earliest so that you can register for the test date of your preference. Below are the steps for the registration process for the GMAT exam:

  1. Go to the official GMAT website
  2. Click on Registration.
  3. Create your account on the website by filling in the following details: First Name, Last Name, Email id, and password.
  4. Sign in to the account with the newly created credentials.
  5. Enter your personal information – Name, Address, Date of birth, Nationality, etc.
  6. Enter your profile information or optional information – Educational history, Work history, Native language.
  7. Verify your Profile
  8. Select at least THREE preferred GMAT Test Centres nearest to your preferred location. 
  9. Confirm your exam dates according to your preference and availability
  10. Pay the Exam registration fees of US $250 using any of the following methods: Money orders, Credit/Debit Cards, Personal Cheques, or Cashier’s cheques.
  11. Registration is now complete.

GMAT Test Dates

The GMAT is conducted all year round and students will therefore have the option to select the dates when they want to attempt the exam as per their convenience and comfort. Candidates also have the choice to either reschedule or cancel their exam dates up to 7 days before their actual exam date. Another important point to remember about the GMAT exam is the number of attempts you are allowed. You can attempt the GMAT up to 5 times in a calendar year with a 16-day gap between each attempt. You are allowed 8 attempts in a lifetime. In the event you get a perfect score of 800 you will not be allowed to attempt the exam again for 5 years.

GMAT Eligibility Criteria

There are no specific eligibility criteria for attempting the GMAT however we have listed some of the common criteria requisite for writing the GMAT exam. You can attempt the GMAT if you are over the age of 13 although you must remember the following: If you are between the ages of 13 and 18 you will need your parent or legal guardian to sign a consent form which can be downloaded from the official website. There is no upper age limit for attempting the GMAT. Similarly, there are no minimum or maximum academic qualifications required, no prior work experience is required, no minimum academic grade is required, no maximum or minimum work experience is needed to attempt the GMAT. 

GMAT Stats

  • Every year approximately 300,000 candidates attempt the GMAT exam.
  • Most of the candidates attempting the exam apply for an MBA program, about 30% had applied for their Master’s degrees.
  • The majority of the individuals who attempt the exam are American. They are followed closely by citizens of East and Southeast Asia, next were the citizens of Central and South Asia.
  • There are about 400 test centres that administer and conduct the GMAT exam across the world
  • Your percentile scores on the exam depend on the performance of other candidates who have attempted the exam as well.
  • The highest median scores have been obtained by students from Australia, followed by candidates from Asia, West Europe, and the US.
  • GMAT doesn’t aim to measure qualities like Communication skills, business acumen, Team working abilities, and Leadership potential.
  • GMAT aims at evaluating an individual’s Reasoning and Critical thinking abilities which are necessary once they graduate from MBA colleges and secure jobs at upper management levels in the corporate world.
