To ace the GMAT quant section, it is essential to understand the question properly so that you can apply the most effective method to solve problems. These methods will help you save your time.

Let’s have a look at an example to see how shortcuts can make things easier for you:

Suppose you have to find a Square of a Number Ending with 5 , let’s say 95.

Step 1 – Add 1 to the left number (9) and multiply it by itself

9 x (9+1) = 9 x 10 = 90

Step 2- Add 5² (i.e. 25) at the last of the number obtained in Step 1

I.e., 9025. The answer is 9025.

4. Analyze your Performance in Mock Tests

Mock tests are an integral part of your GMAT preparation. Taking mock tests helps you develop a better understanding of the exam pattern and your own strengths and weaknesses. Make sure that you take mock tests on a regular basis as they can help you keep track of your progress.

5. Improve upon Mental Math Skills

Save your time by doing the basic math operations in your mind. Learn new tricks for faster calculation and use them during practice. Mental calculation will help you eliminate some of the options that are provided to you. You can also use approximations to arrive at the right answer. The best way to get better at mental calculations is to practice simple operations on random numbers during your free time without using a pen and paper.

6. Cross-check the Signs

Students often use the mathematical signs erroneously. While performing basic mathematical operations like adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, it is very important to put the right sign before the number to get the right answer. These kinds of errors are completely inexplicable and can be seriously damaging for your performance in the exam. So, make sure that you are extra careful with the negative sign.
